A new book,

posted on Monday, February 14, 2005 by Kevin in [Books]

As you may have picked up, I’m not one for finishing things, I’m quite flighty, This is especially true of books. I’ve lost count of the amount of books that I’ve got half way though and then never gone back too, so the fact that I’ve almost finished four books this year already is an amazing achievement. I’ve finished the books in part because of daisy’s bedtime routine, which use to involve me sitting on the bed for about 1/2 an hour each night while daisy fed, this meant I almost got right through the hitchhikers guide trilogy (the four books, I don’t count Mostly Harmless), before we changed the routine.

Now that the routine has changed, I have been just over half way though so long and thanks for all the fish… For around a month, but I’ve started to read it again, and I will finish! Especially now, because I’ve bought a new book. The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer.

I’m a big fan of Eoin Colfer books, especially the Artemis Fowl ones, in fact I think Artemis Fowl books are better than Harry potter books. It’s not that the potter books aren’t any good (although from book four onwards, they could have done with some editing down), it’s just Artemis is much less of a moody child than Harry.

I’ve finished reading a book,

Quite an accomplishment for someone as faddy as me (just look at the list of things I consider my self to be in the middle of). During the time when Ruth is feeding Daisy, and we are waiting for her to drop off to sleep, I’ve read the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy again.

This is quite an achievement for me, in terms of commitment to reading. Over the last few years I’ve struggled to actually finish books, in fact I think I only read one book completely last year (Stargazing: Memoirs of a lighthouse keeper, v-good) and that was while I was on holiday.

But the sixth Harry potter book is going to be released on 16th July 2005, it’s absolutely ages since book five came out, and I can’t really remember what happened in it, oh well at least I’ve got 7 months to re-read them all.

Big Liverpool Read

posted on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 by Kevin in [Books, Liverpool]

So today saw the launch of the “Big Liverpool Read”, The idea is that everybody in Liverpool reads the same book, and then the community is brought together by discussion the book, at the bus stop, or in the pub. Now I can’t actually find any information on the web about it, (the Today program had a piece on it), but from what I can glean, we are all meant to read Holes by Louis Sachar, during the month of October, and because it’s a city wide thing we will be able to buy the book half price, which again is good because I’ve been thinking of buying this book, so now I can go get it for cheep.

the only problem is I cycle to work, so who will i discuss the book with ?

What I Am reading

posted on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 by Kevin in [Books]

I am currently reading “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” by Mark Haddon, we bought the book from amazon, because it took our order of ?25 pounds so we got free delivery, which made the book which is priced at ?7.69 cost more like ?4.

The book is fantastic, it’s a murder mystery novel written from the view point of a 15 year old boy with autisim, although I think he more likely has Asperger Syndrome which is like autimism, I think or so I have been told by Tess who would now more about these things than me, especially since they have recently started fostering Liam who has autisim.

The only real problem I can see with the book, and you can probably tell already is that I think it can give you Asperger byproxy, in that you start to write in the style of the book, just like this. It’s ok though because I think that will go eventually, I hope.

The great amazon quest continues, amazon now knows that I own 39 Things, and I have a 9 item wish list. The real sad achievement of the day is that the 105 Recommendations each for DVD, Music and Books that amazon generates now do not contain anything I already own.

this job is poo!

I’ve spent most of today, telling amazon about everything I own. It’s a time consuming job and I’m only upto 23 Items, but it does give you a sense of worth. according to Amazon I could make ?430.40 if I sold it all today. But then I would have no stuff!!!
