I’m going to talk toilets for a little bit; in our toilet bowl - which may well be original to the house - are the words “improved torcade”. for ages I assumed it red it as a strange way as saying torquage (still not a real word i know).

I would often think why would improved torque be good for a toilet? and how would you know. anyway I’ve just searched google, and nothing. it’s not real - nothing even close or bathroom related.

So does anyone know what “improved torcade” means in our toilet? guesses on a postcard please .

I typed “torcade” into Google, and the top two results were both on Ancestry, so I’m wondering if it’s the name of the guy who made the toilet.

Interestingly, the tenth entry was this post - gotta love Google and its high-speed indexing…

this is now the number one search result for torcade, I think the internet is going to let us down on this one.

The word “torcade” isn’t in a bog-standard dictionary either. “Torc” could be a re-spelling of “torque”, but I’m not sure if that gets us any further on…

It’s gotta be something to do with “Cascade” - all these old bogs were called something which suggested a mighty waterfall - I remember on in a student house called “the Niagara”

I’m intrigued by the idea of a “bog standard” dictionary - particularly in this context - would this be akin to the armitage shanks catalogue?
