- road accidents cost £8bn a year
- offshoring jobs cost £5.8bn
- alcohol abuse cost £3.3bn
no word yet on how much it “costs the uk economy” for people to sit around finding all this out…

I’m starting to think that actually, a billion isn’t all that much. I mean, sure, in my bank account it would make a difference, but £1 billion on train delays, divided by 60 million people, is about £16 a year. I’m saying, we don’t notice it.
People publish the “costs the economy” stories, making it sound like the very brink of economic disaster, and it’s the price of lunch in Starbucks once a year.
